Money Styles

/ˈmʌn.i staɪlz/ · noun

Definition

Categories of habitual money behavior (typically spender, saver, and avoider) useful for couples understanding their differences.

Money-style categorizations vary in the personal-finance and counseling literature. The most common breakdown is three styles: spenders (who use money expressively), savers (who use money for safety), and avoiders (who try not to engage with money at all).

More granular frameworks (e.g., Brad and Ted Klontz's 'money scripts') identify dozens of underlying beliefs that drive these styles. For most couples, the simpler three-style frame is enough to start a useful conversation.
